Incitec Pivot Recladding

Degree C Completes Stage 3 of Major Incitec Pivot Devonport Recladding Project

Degree C has successfully completed Stage 3 of the four-stage recladding project at the Incitec Pivot manufacturing facility in Devonport, marking another significant milestone in the transformation of one of Tasmania's key industrial sites.

Delivered within a live operational environment, the project combines structural refurbishment, specialised protective coatings and large-scale cladding replacement to extend the life of the facility while improving its long-term durability and performance.

A Complex Industrial Refurbishment

The scope of works spans multiple disciplines and requires careful planning to ensure work can be completed safely while minimising disruption to ongoing site operations.

The project includes:

  • Recoating existing structural steelwork with a specialised industrial protective paint system
  • Replacing sections of the existing roof structure
  • Installing new specialty-coated roof purlins
  • Replacing roof and wall cladding with high-performance fibreglass sheeting designed for harsh industrial environments

With three stages now complete, the scale of the project is becoming clear.

Project by the Numbers

Across Stages 1, 2 and 3, our team has completed:

  • More than 40,000 stainless steel screws installed
  • 306 fibreglass roof sheets covering 3,092m²
  • 208 fibreglass wall cladding sheets
  • 3.9 kilometres of new roof purlins
  • 600 metres of wall girts
  • 270 metres of stainless steel flashings
  • 45 tonnes of sandblasting media used
  • 2,812 litres of specialised protective coating applied

These figures represent hundreds of hours of fabrication, surface preparation, coating application and installation, all delivered while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.

Engineering Solutions Beyond the Scope

One of the standout features visible during the project isn't part of the recladding itself—it's a custom-engineered access platform developed by the Degree C team to solve a unique safety challenge.

Installed 8.5 metres above ground, the platform provides access to a conveyor with a moving tripper system. Because the conveyor needs to travel through the platform opening, conventional handrails weren't an option, creating a significant fall protection challenge.

Rather than accepting the limitation, our team designed an innovative interlinked gate system. The mechanism ensures that when one gate is opened, the other automatically closes, maintaining continuous edge protection while still allowing the conveyor tripper to move freely through the opening.

It's a practical engineering solution that demonstrates how innovation and safety can work together to overcome complex site constraints.

Delivering Industrial Projects Safely

Projects of this scale rely on far more than technical expertise. They demand detailed planning, close coordination between teams and an unwavering commitment to quality, safety and precision.

From specialised protective coatings through to structural refurbishment and engineered access solutions, every stage of the Incitec Pivot Devonport project reflects Degree C's capability to deliver complex industrial works in challenging operating environments.

With Stage 3 now complete, we look forward to delivering the final stage and continuing to support the long-term future of this important Tasmanian manufacturing facility.
