Mechanical Services - Projects
Project Case Study - Wellington Square, Launceston
The Drysdale North Campus in Launceston forms an integral part of the Tasmanian Polytechnic's hospitality and tourism
program. As part of a recent upgrade and refurbishment project, Degree C was awarded a large package of work
encompassing the installation of in-floor heating and ventilation in the restaurants and food preparation areas.
The industrial scale kitchen was equipped with stainless steel extraction hoods capable of removing large volumes
of stale air which is immediately replaced with fresh air via two large air handling units concealed in the roof. The air
handling units draw in fresh air from outside the building, passing it through a water coil heat transfer system before
reintroducing it to the kitchen below at a comfortable 18˚C.
The installation of hydronic in-floor heating powered by natural gas boilers ensures that the Drysdale restaurants and
training rooms maintain a comfortable temperature for patrons and students alike. The combined thermally and
energy efficient ventilation and heating systems are controlled by an integrated control system.
Project Case Study - Windermere and Austins Ferry Primary Schools
This twin campus project is typical of the work delivered to the education sector where energy efficient solutions are
essential to offset long-term running costs. Following the construction of new buildings at both Austins Ferry and
Windermere Primary Schools, the Degree C Hobart Mechanical Services team were contracted to install heating,
cooling and ventilation services to multiple buildings on each of the two campuses.
Classrooms, staff rooms and libraries were equipped with state of the art Daikin VRV systems ideally suited to large,
open plan spaces; wall mounted Daikin multi-split air conditioning systems were installed in the Student Services
buildings; and powerful ceiling cassette units were fitted to teaching spaces within the multi-purpose halls.
By tailoring a specific solution to each of the distinct learning spaces, Degree C has delivered an energy efficient
system, fully integrated with each school's Building Management System.
